The last published volume in Stephen Fry’s series on ancient Greek mythology and history thoroughly entertained and satisfied me as anticipated.

The book follows the lead up to and the course of the infamous Trojan war immortalised in Homer’s Iliad. The characters are presented with an impartial voice and explores their emotive states at key moments influencing the course of events. The narration is unmatched and continually engaging thanks to Stephen’s mellifluous use of language and tone.

This book radically influenced my opinion of all the Gods and Heroes involved in this story. Their mistakes and cruelty are presented without ado and made me ponder over the glorifying edits that latch onto the stories of such idolised characters.

The book is strangely just as influential in its unbiased and non politicised view of the events while keeping the thrill of the epic scale.
