The Priory of the Orange Tree is a High Fantasy taking place in a richly crafted medieval setting. The book features a cast of diverse and convincing characters. The politics is intriguing but not too complicated. The primary plot rests on a history involving misunderstood characters and dragons.
The geography and infrastructure is beautifully crafted. The book deserves all the praise for the representation. Here are queens who are considered the crown heirs, the ruling hand and there’s not anyone to say she needs a king to be worthy. It’s off the charts feminist. The fantastic elements offer a fresh narrative and form a thoroughly enjoyable story.
There are a bunch of minor plot holes that can be brushed off. The action scenes and climaxes are a bit haphazardly written and seem to end abruptly. The book is quite lengthy but the pace is not too slow.
More than the main characters I really badly wanted Nayimathun to be okay. The docile and wise personality was really endearing.
The characters are well balanced with failures and personal tragedies enough to not be overbearing.
My hands are itching for the prequel!!
